Last night I was down at Vancouver’s own IMPERIAL to cover Canadian indie folk band Reuben and The Dark. What a show it was!
The night started off with Faux Prix (Bradley Hanan Carter of the band BlackEnglish) and I was a fan from go. I met Bradley briefly before by the bar, and though conversation was short, you could tell he was a genuinely nice guy. His solo set was just him onstage with a beat machine, a guitar, and later a mini Casio keyboard. The set was filled with humorous crowd interaction and solid melodies which made for a great start to the night. Only downside I can see is I wished his set was longer. With any luck, he’ll be back soon with a full band *fingers crossed*. I applaud Reuben bringing him on the road.
reuben and the darkNow onto the band behind the show; Reuben and the Dark. Consisting of frontman Reuben Bullock, Shea Alain, Brock Geiger, Ian Jarvis, and Brendon “Dino” Soares. If you’re wondering why that name sounds familiar, its for two reasons; first his music is amazing and second you’ve probably heard his song ‘Black Water’ on the Breaking Bad movie El Camino sound track. The band was on the road in support of their ‘Un|Love’ album. When audience members weren’t already singing he invited them to sing along, and if you didn’t know the words, he would teach you. There wasn’t a still body in the entire house , everyone was moving with the music. Could you blame them? The band, minus Dino (who’s sitting behind the drums), could be found performing in one piece jumpsuits while owning the stage and you could tell the crowd loved it!
